International Exiles

International Exiles was a Melbourne band formed in 1979 by Rob Wellington with Laine Macready, Adam Learner and Paul Hester. Soon Paul left, David Adams (drums) and Andy Calendar joined (keys).

They soon recorded Mini-skirts In Moscow as a double band single with The Jetsonnes (soon to split up and reform as Hunters & Collectors). The track was a cover Rob discovered in a second hand record shop and rearranged. Their close friend Groper, sound engineer for much of the scene, recorded it in a bedroom. It was great!

They gigged every week at Melbourne's famous Crystal Ballroom and the Exford Hotel in the city. Before lomg they were signed to Missing Link. The Boys Next Door/Birthday Party were the only other act on the label. The only single at thw time was Let's Be Sophisticated which sat at the top of the Indy charts for a few weeks but the band split up before recording anything more... until today.

Skip almost 30 years and Rob writes another set of songs with the support of original bass player Adam Learner (of Blue Ruin fame). They enlist genius drummer Paul Keane and discover the amazing Vaneessa Wawruszak.
